Welcome to 2010! |
2009 was an excellent year for the Burnaby Board of Trade and the local business community. Though we all had to weather the effects of the recession, we are now on our way to recovery. From the City Council Reception in January, to the Business Creating Business Tradeshow in May and the 10th Annual Burnaby Business Excellence Awards in November, the BBOT has worked hard to hold events that both help to foster a strong and sustainable business community and showcase your achievements.

We are your board of trade and, as such, we are committed to empowering Burnaby businesses by providing leadership and educational resources, facilitating partnerships between businesses and the community, and encouraging corporate social responsibility. We are proud to be the voice of local business and wish to continue providing support throughout the new year.
From all of us at the Burnaby Board of Trade, we welcome you to 2010! |

Homelessness Position Paper: The BBOT Weighs in on Homelessness |
 |
The Burnaby Board of Trade is concerned about the economic and social impact of homelessness in Burnaby and has developed positional statements on the issue:
• Homelessness is bad for business
• Homelessness is expensive
• Homelessness is a waste of human capital and productivity
• Homelessness reflects poorly on our society
• Homeless numbers are increasing
• Affordable Housing is in short supply |
The Burnaby Board of Trade recommends that the federal government:
1. Develop a nationally-led, comprehensive and long term housing strategy to measurably reduce the number of homeless and individuals at risk of becoming homeless in Canada.
2. Provide funding for a nationally-led housing strategy in order to significantly relieve costs on health care, social service and judicial systems. |
