Leaders of the Greater Vancouver Taiwanese Community met yesterday evening (August 11) to officially form the "Greater Vancouver Taiwanese Community Typhoon Morakot Relief Committee", as a response to the tragic event that took place in Taiwan as a result of Typhoon Morakot. Christina Chang, president of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in BC, was elected as the Chair of the Committee. Also at the meeting, about 20 leaders of the Vancouver Taiwanese community signed on to join the committee with many more expected to join.

Typhoon Morakot Relief Committee held the second meeting on August 15 at Richmond. Directors reached the following conclusions:
1. Set up a new website to post events and information of the committee
2. Hold a relief concert
3. Deploy soliciting booths
4. Raising fund to rebuild infrastructure
TCCS will be responsible for news release and website management. Vancouver Taiwanese Presbyterian Church is in charge of the concert in associate with Kevin Chen, founder of the Taiwanese youth club. The committee will have a silent auction before the concert begins. After the concert, the PWS&D will remit all money recruited to Taiwan. Long term money soliciting activities are to be arranged.
TCCBC will set up its money soliciting booth in Aberdeen center. All other directors will have their own plans. Our secretary, Yu-wen Chang, coordinates all soliciting activities. Detailed information will be released soon.
Typhoon Morakot Relief Committee (TMRC) held its third meeting in Vancouver at 7 PM on September 2nd. TMRC appreciates all condolence expressed and fund donated by supporters. Directors of the executive board also reached a commitment to invite Taiwanese consults to join our thanksgiving banquet and share the information regarding reconstruction.
Directors also review the profile of the concert held last week and recommend the followings to improve:
1. The concert should be held earlier. People’s compassion was fading.
2. Media promotion is still short of enough effort.
3. Auction activities and soliciting period’s schedule are overlapped.
The Thanksgiving banquet is scheduled at the end of October according to directors’ suggestion.
